EDGECAM has created a library of 33 post processors supporting the Haas VF series of 3-axis milling machines. And developers also intend to produce posts for 4- and 5-axis VF mills and Haas lathes.
Post processors are typically written on an “as needed” basis, to meet a customer’s specific requirements, and therefore, may not support all machine functions. EDGECAM’s new posts have been written in consultation with Haas and are aimed at supporting all functions of the machine. In addition to the post processor, EDGECAM provides machine graphics for simulation purposes for each post, assisting the programmer to visualize the machining process and avoid collisions.
Using a post processor in EDGECAM is a menu choice. Simply hit the button and it produces code for the machine.
As post processors form the critical link in sending NC code to the machine in a format it can read, the machine simply will not work properly if the post is not right. It may not accept the code from the outset, or may stop running in the middle of a program. The worst case scenario is that there could be a collision, damaging the part or the machine. By developing these post processors in consultation with Haas, EDGECAM dramatically reduces these potential problems.
